WEEK 13 UPDATE - Panthers & Scotsta on Top Near the Halfway Point

Hi everyone!

Well, it's been too far between updates and a lot has happened since!

We've seen some fantastic matches in the NRL and with heavy weights the Rabbits and Roosters starting to hit their straps, the race for the top 8 has become quite congested.
It's the Panthers who have really stunned the competition so far, leading the premiership ladder on the back of 4 wins in a row which have seen their premiership odds slashed to $15 to lift the trophy on Grand Final day.
With Ivan Cleary doing his magic at the helm, it wouldn't be a silly bet at this stage.
The Broncos are the other side showing some massive improvement to last year with 4 wins on the trot also, and more importantly the ability to string wins on the road.
The Storm have injury issues due to Origin #1 but are staying within touch of the top 8 so far.
The Top 8 is very compressed with only 1 win separating 1st-8th at the moment so there is still plenty of time for the finals make up to take shape.
Last years strugglers the Tigers & Eels have shown they aren't sides to be taken lightly with some impressive wins so far in season 2014. Both sides are playing with far more discipline and belief overall and could well shake the competition if they make the finals come September.
It's still very hard to predict who'll make the 8 at this stage...but I did get you all to do that at the start of the season for Bonus Pool Table points this season. I will be adding these predictions to the blogsite over the next few days...so stay tuned!

I don't have to remind anyone that the 2nd State of Origin match is on this coming Wednesday night with the NSW Blues having a massive opportunity to wrap up their first State of Origin Series win since 2005.
The QLDers are under the pump with injury problems but this champion side are playing the under dog tag well leading up to the match which makes me smell another classic QLD ambush. The Blues need to be on their toes for this! It's going to be a cracker of a game. Don't forget to tip it!

Round 13 saw some super games played over the weekend with many teams having their Origin stars returning since game 01 at Suncorp Stadium.

It started on Friday night with the Manly Seaeagles putting away the previous league leaders the Bulldogs 32-10 at Brookvale, while over in the west, the Parramatta Eels continued to show their unbeatable form at home with a clinical 18-16 win over the Cowboys with Jarryd Hayne continuing his Dally M winning form at the back.

On Saturday the Panthers held onto pole position with an impressive 36-14 win over the Titans on the Gold Coast, a Benji Marshall-Josh Dugan inspired Dragons tore apart a woeful (yet weakened) Sharks side 30-0 and the Rabbitohs ran in five tries in the final 21 minutes to secure a 34-18 come-from-behind win over the NZ Warriors in front of 20,267 fans in Perth. Greg Inglis left the field injured which puts him in doubt for Origin #2 this Wednesday.

On Sunday, the Wests Tigers kept their spot in the top 8 with a gutsy 23-20 win over a spirited Newcastle Knights at Newcastle, while the Roosters took full advantage of an injury struck Melbourne Storm side winning 32-12 at AAMI Park. On Monday night, the Broncos took 2 valuable away points against the Canberra Raiders winning 28-4 in a strong performance.

Defending champion Scott McCourt (Scotsta) has gone 4 points clear ahead of Steve Rootsey (90) at the top of the Tipping Championship table on 94 points, however looks can be deceiving when you look at who and who hasn't played the most jokers in the current make up of the Top 10.

tais1 who sits in 5th place on 86 points is certainly the best positioned if he continues to play his cards right. He has picked up two All Corrects in the past two weeks, yet still has 4 of his 5 jokers still to play and is only 8 points behind the leader. Simply the Bears is also in a very similar position with 4 jokers available and only a further 2 points back in 9th place. Tonz & Feet Little are also nicely positioned with 3 jokers in 3rd and 4th spot respectively.
