Hi everyone! Looking back at the week 03 update, the title of the update was Storm and Dragons the only unbeaten teams. Wow...what a difference two weeks make!
Both teams have lost two games on the trot and the competition is still wide open at this early stage.
You still can't go past your Roosters, Rabbitohs, Storm and Sea Eagles sides being there in September but gee, some teams are standing up and raising some eyebrows.
Lets see if they can keep it up.
We are now five weeks into the competition, we have an NRL ladder you could swear you are looking at standing on your head with the Titans leading the competition alone on 8 points and is joined in the top 8 by the likes of last year's strugglers the Tigers, Eels, Broncos, Panthers and Dragons.
It was a mad week for tipping (for most) last week.
The highest score was 4/8 so no one got better than a 50% strike rate. Ouch!!
As mentioned above, the 5th round was one crazy weekend.
It started on Friday night with two big upsets, the defending champion Roosters went down to the Doggies 9-8 at ANZ Stadium in atrocious conditions, while the Eels shocked the Broncos in Brisbane 25-18. It had been 21 matches since last years wooden spooners enjoyed its last success on the road, also against Brisbane way back in 2012. A great result for them!
On Saturday the Sharks won their first game of the season blowing away a very disappointing Warriors outfit 37-6 at Cronulla, while the Rabbitohs made a big return to form thrashing the current league leader (at the time) Dragons 26-6 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
On Sunday, the Gold Coast Titans stole a last minute 28-26 victory at AAMI Park.
Titans forward Greg Bird slotted the kick with only a minute left on Sunday to break the deadlock after Titans forward Luke Douglas lost the ball in a tackle.
The Melbourne faithful, who felt Douglas lost the ball rather than it being raked out, were furious with the referees and booed them from the ground.
Meanwhile in pouring rain and terrible conditions at Leichhardt Oval infront of 16311 fans, the Tigers ambushed hot title favourites Manly 34-18. The Tigers totally dominated the first half, scoring four-tries-to-one and went to the sheds ahead 26-6 after a late Jamie Lyon try that gave the Sea Eagles some hope of a comeback. But that hope all but evaporated when David Nofoaluma scored his second try in the 53rd minute to put the Tigers out to 32-6 with Pat Richards' conversion.
Haze13 and defending champion Scott McCourt (Scotsta) are sitting 3 points clear of the top of the Tipping Championship ladder on 39 points. NO1QPRNZ and Richard McCourt share 3rd equal on 36 points. A few jokers have been played early but with 25 Rounds still to go, we are going to see a few more changes yet!
