Hi everyone!
Firstly, apologies on behalf of Footytips, for the week 02 disaster.
I understand those who had a very good week of tipping in week 02 must be very gutted, but we must think about those tipsters who couldn't get on to the site on the Friday before the week kicked off to enter or change their tips, let alone play their Jokers, so I think it's a fair result to give everyone 12 points and wipe the slate clean. Here's hoping it doesn't happen again!
Just another reminder that I'll be chasing up those pending fees over this next week.
To those who still owe their money (& promised to pay at a later date), please continue checking your email OR Footytips Inbox for my message. Thanks to those who have paid up recently.
After I have collected the remaining fees, I'll make the 2014 PRIZE POOL and PRIZES announcement.
Well, the 3rd round again sprung up some surprising results.
A Luke Brooks-inspired Wests Tigers have beaten South Sydney minus Greg Inglis 25-16 in a spiteful NRL encounter at ANZ Stadium last Friday night.
Inglis was knocked out in the fifth minute in a Tim Simona hit after Souths had opened the scoring through a converted try to Ben Lowe. Brooks had a hand in four of the Tigers five tries as the joint venture showed they are unlikely to be the wooden spoon contenders many had them pegged as pre-season.
In the other Friday Night clash Sydney Roosters stunned the Broncos 30-26 NRL winners at Suncorp Stadium.
And for a moment, the Broncos thought they had the 2 points in the bag, leading 26-18 over the defending premiers with seven minutes left on the clock.
However, the Roosters hit back before a sublime Mitchell Pearce pass set up the match-winner to a barnstorming Boyd Cordner in the dying minutes to snap Brisbane's unbeaten season start.
On Saturday The Penrith Panthers snuck home 18-16 winners over the Bulldogs, the Dragons continue to impress by remaining undefeated in their narrow 14-12 win over rivals the Cronulla Sharks while the NZ Warriors got their season on track with an impressive upset 20-16 victory over the Cowboys up in Townsville.
On Sunday the Seaeagles made a lucky escape infront of their home faithful beating the Eels 22-18 with a last minute try to centre Steve Matai, while the Titans turned around a disappointing performance to upset the Raiders in Canberra 24-12.
On Monday night, Melbourne Storm took the points but a suspected neck injury to Newcastle forward Alex McKinnon soured the NRL clash.
The Storm won the game 28-20 to remain unbeaten in 2014, but an awkward 40th minute tackle on McKinnon saw him lay motionless for several minutes before being stretchered from the ground.
The 22-year-old landed on his head in an awkward tackle by Storm forwards Jesse Bromwich, his brother Kenny and Jordan McLean.
The tackle, which happened 30 seconds from halftime, was put on report by referee Gerard Sutton.
Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith protested that the tackle was made worse by McKinnon ducking his head.
"I don't want to see that happen to anyone in our game but if he doesn't duck his head it doesn't happen," Smith told the referee.
Rex Kwando, The Neighbour & Titta all sit equal top of the Tipping Championship table, however it should be noted that Rex Kwando has played the extra Joker. NZ Tiger, Heath Caldwell, defending champion Scott McCourt (Scotsta) & Steve Rootsey are all just a point behind in 4th equal position.
Keep getting those tips in folks!! Looooong season still ahead!
