WEEK 06 - A PERFECT STORM

Hi everyone!

Welcome to this Week 06 update.

No update last week as I away in Sydney, leaving the Sunday night BEFORE the Tigers came to town for the Monday Night Clash in my hometown of Melbourne. Very typical.

Anyway, I'm back and what a weekend of footy last weekend for the Heritage Round with all the talk centered mainly around Sonny Bill Williams taking on his old club the Bulldogs (whom he walked out on in 2008) & of course, the top of the table clash at ANZ Stadium between the Bunnies and the Storm.

Both matches were eye openers in their own right.
SBW copped the abuse from fans (as expected) but put on a MOTM performance scoring tries and helping the Roosters overpower last year's Grand Finalists 38-0, leaving the Bulldogs equal last on the NRL table with a poor 1-5 record to start the 2013 campaign.

In the battle of the unbeaten's, the Storm once again proved why they are THE team to stop showing the experience and class against a near faultless Rabbitohs outfit, claiming a 17-10 win and their 14th premiership win in a row. Seriously, WHO can stop these guys??

The Defending Premiers stood and delivered once again.
The other results last weekend saw the Broncos win back to back matches overcoming rivals North QLD Cowboys 12-10 at Suncorp Stadium on Friday Night, the Knights won a dour match against the Panthers 8-6 at Hunter Stadium while the Warriors blew a 12 point lead to go down 20-16 against a typically strong finishing Raiders at home (in Canberra) on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the Seaeagles made it 3 in a row holding off a determined Sharks side 25-18 at Brookvale Oval, the Dragons overcame a late comeback from the Tigers winning 13-12 at the Sydney Cricket Ground while the Titans came from behind to down the Eels 28-22 at Skilled Park.

1YEARWONDERBARBA has lost his top spot (and a 6 point lead) to some masterful tipping.
Scotsta (63) picked an All Correct Joker round to score 20 points and push him to the top of the Tipping Championship table with a 6 point lead over 1YEARWONDERBARBA (57) who is now all out of Joker cards to play.
Bruiser (49) also picked an All Correct Joker jumping 29 places into 4th spot, only one point behind Anu (50) in 3rd.  Rocketane, Richard McCourt, and LOUNGIN SON are all tied in 5th equal spot on 44 points while BT Ross (43) is a further point behind in 8th position.

A total of 18 tipsters took their Joker cards this week.

Keep getting those tips in!

Here's what's happened in Week Six

DEFENDING PREMIERS OVERCOME BUNNIES TO CLAIM 14th IN A ROW

The contenders threw down the challenge but Melbourne once again proved just why it remains the NRL yardstick with a 17-10 victory over South Sydney in Saturday night's battle of the league's only two unbeaten teams.

Now only the Storm can boast a perfect record after six rounds; the premiers are unbeaten since July last year after emerging three-tries-to-two winners in a match which lived-up to its blockbuster billing.

"That was probably the toughest game we've played all year," Storm coach Craig Bellamy conceded to the media

"Talking to couple of Souths players then, Greg [Inglis] and Jeff Lima and Ben Lowe, they thought the same.

"The stand-out for me was the goal-line defence from us but also from them as well.

I think everyone here and everyone watching at home would've enjoyed it because it was tough game of footy.

I think everyone here would've enjoyed it and everyone watching at home would've enjoyed it because ... as I said, it was tough game of footy."

In their first visit to ANZ Stadium since securing the 2012 title the Storm were directed brilliantly by half-back Cooper Cronk, who set up tries with both passes and kicks before icing the game with a field goal four minutes from full-time.

The Rabbitohs only made two errors in the opening half but both were punished as Cronk first set up Kevin Proctor and then Mahe Fonua.

Former Storm star Greg Inglis did his best to drag Souths over the line with an athletic leap for his side's first try eight minutes after half-time to make it 12-6, and at that stage the home side was full of running and the 32,671-strong crowd full of voice.

Burgess brothers Sam and George were bending the line with every run, but calls for a Billy Slater knock-on on his own line went ignored when another try loomed.

A minute later the Storm were out by 10 points when Gareth Widdop beat three defenders from 10 metres out.

Some Souths heads dropped but there was still life when Andrew Everingham dived over in the corner with eight minutes to go, but this is a Storm side that just knows how to win as Cronk extended their lead beyond a converted try.

Late drama threatened when Slater was sin-binned after a try-saver on Nathan Merritt with less than two minutes remaining, but time and a relentless Storm were against the Rabbitohs.

Melbourne: 17 (K Proctor, M Fonua, G Widdop tries; C Smith 2/3 conversions, C Cronk 1/1 field goals)
South Sydney: 10 (G Inglis, A Everingham tries; A Reynolds 1/2 conversions)
