Welcome to this Week 08 update.
Last update I asked, after the Storm defeated the Rabbitohs in Week 06, "who can stop these guys?"
Well the Premier's 16 match winning streak came to a sudden halt after falling 24-20 to the Green Machine at AAMI Park last Saturday. A stunning result that followed up their previous wins in 2011 & 2012 on Melbourne turf. Rugby league can be a funny ol' game.
No doubt, the Storm have the class to come back from this. They face the Panthers in Penrith this weekend and it'd take a brave man to put your money on back to back losses for the Storm.
The result, however, is a fantastic result for the Rabbitohs and Roosters who continue to push as major premiership threats for the Victorian club, with convincing wins over the Broncos and Panthers respectively.
I was reading today that Sonny Bill Williams hasn't yet entered negotiations with the Roosters to extend his one year deal with the Tri colours into 2014.
“He’s only on the one-year contract. I think we’re all hoping, the Roosters especially, but I think the game should be hoping he comes to an agreement with the Roosters in the next four to six months.” coach Robinson told the media.
For the Roosters, Kiwis and NRL's sake...here's hoping they do. It's without a doubt, SBW has been a huge success since his return to the 13 man code so far.
The Warriors hung on to claim their 2nd win against a strong finishing Titans 25-24 at Mt Smart Stadium while the Sharks stunned the Knights 21-20 at Hunter Stadium in Newcastle.
On Monday Night Football, the Seaeagles scored a last gasp 24-18 win over the Dragons at Win Jubilee Oval.
In our competition, Scotsta (75) continues to hold a steady position on top of the Tipping Championship Table, a healthy 9 points ahead of 2nd placed Feet Little (66) who has made his way up into the runner up spot largely thanks to a string of Joker Rounds played (his 4th in a row this week).
1YEARWONDERBARBA (64) sits in 3rd spot with LOUNGIN SON (63) only one point off the top 3.
Rounding off the Top 10 for this week, Rocketane & Anu (both on 62) in 5th equal, 2007 Champion Richard McCourt & 2008 Champion jall091 (both on 61) in 8th equal and Bronco2020 & Bruiser (both on 59) in 9th equal.
Off the Top 10, Anu, Bronco2020 and Bruiser have played the least Joker rounds with only 2/5 used so far.
A total of 28 tipsters took their Joker cards this week.
Keep getting those tips in!

GREEN MACHINE HALT STORM'S 16 MATCH WINNING STREAK
![]() | |
A deflated Melbourne Storm leave AAMI Park after defeat. Not a sight we'll see too often this year but fans of the other 15 clubs probably enjoyed this | . |
The Raiders have now won three in a row on Storm turf and squared their season ledger at 4-4 whilst handing the 2012 premiers their first defeat since July 27 last year.
Melbourne had won 16 straight coming into the clash but that record was immediately under threat as Blake Ferguson scored for the Raiders just 10 minutes in.
The Storm hit back through Jesse Bromwich and a piece of Cooper Cronk magic saw Billy Slater running through for the home side's second try shortly after the half-hour mark.
For the second week running Melbourne let a late try in as Ferguson made it a double in the shadows of half-time and converted it himself to lock things up at 12-12 at the break.
Despite scoring all the points in the first half himself, Ferguson said it was a true team effort.
"I think we all just dug deep and we worked hard for each other," he said.
"We knew it was going to be a tough ask coming down here in Melbourne, they've won what was it? Seventeen in a row?
"We came off a loss last week that we shouldn't have lost. I think we just all stepped up."
The Raiders then took the advantage with tries to Jack Wighton and a bolting Reece Robinson within the first quarter-hour after the re-start.
But their trademark never-say-die kept the Storm in the contest as Justin O'Neill and Mahe Fonua crossed for four-pointers to narrow the deficit to just four points with 20 minutes to play.
Melbourne could not execute in the final minutes despite a handful of chances to capitalise on possession and errors and Canberra held on.
"We always get up against the good teams [but] we have to be like that consistently," Raiders playmaker Terry Campese told Grandstand.
"We haven't been too good away from home but that starts our away form, beating Melbourne in Melbourne after 15 [sic] straight.
"We can beat anyone on our day."
In a blow for David Furner's outfit, representative forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs went off in the opening exchanges with a foot injury.
Canberra: 24 (B Ferguson 2, J Wighton, R Robinson tries; Ferguson 4/4 conversions)
Melbourne: 20 (J Bromwich, B Slater, J O'Neill, M Fonua tries; C Smith 2/4 conversions)
