WEEK 04 - STORM MARCHING ON WHILE DRAGONS & WARRIORS PICK UP FIRST WINS

Hi everyone!

Welcome to yet another update.

The biggest talk in the media after last weekend's round of matches was the obstruction rule and the shoulder charge after some controversial decisions.

As of yesterday, the NRL has made an amendment to its obstruction rule with video referees handed the power to determine the significance of block runners in try-scoring situations.
Obstruction rulings will no longer be a case of black and white for the men in the video referees box, who up until now were forced to deny tries where there was any contact initiated by a block runner into a defender.
Effective from this weekend, if a defender is taken out but would not have been in a position to stop the try being scored, the try will still be awarded.

Meanwhile, Canberra centre Blake Ferguson is set to be sidelined for up to eight weeks and referees Gerard Sutton and Brett Suttor have been dropped from first grade as the shoulder charge rule continued to cause controversy.
Ferguson has a suspected fractured eye socket after copping an apparent shoulder charge from former Kangaroos' hooker Danny Buderus during the Raiders' 28-12 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.

No action was taken by referees Sutton and Suttor and after Canberra officials voiced their disapproval to NRL referees' boss Daniel Anderson the two officials have been sacked.

In the results department last weekend, the Seaeagles came home strong against the Tigers winning 24-0 at Gosford on Thursday Night, the Rabbitohs & Storm remained unbeaten with a hard fought wins over the Bulldogs and Broncos respectively on Good Friday, while on Saturday night the Dragons notched up their first win of the season beating bitter rivals the Sharks 25-12 at Shark Stadium.
On Sunday, the Titans made it 3 in a row winning 28-10 against a woeful Panthers 28-4 at Centrebet Stadium while on Easter Monday the Warriors came from 12-0 down to beat the Cowboys at Mt Smart for their first win of the season and the Roosters stamped their authority by thrashing a hapless Eels 50-0 at Allianz Stadium.

1YEARWONDERBARBA has (yet again) gone and taken his 4th Joker in as many weeks to leave him with one more Joker and a slender 1 point lead over Anu (41) at the top of the Tipping Championship Table. Scotsta drops to 3rd a further point back on 40 while Bronco2020 (31), Darren Scott, jall091 (both 30), Richard McCourt (29), TWiL Nate, NZ Tiger and Bearass (all 28) round up the current top 10 so far.

Keep getting those tips in!

No All Corrects were collected this weekend with 6 from 8 the best picked.

Here's what's happened in Week Four

WARRIORS EDGE PAST COWBOYS TO POST 1st WIN SINCE LAST JULY

It was a tight affair in the latter stages at Mt Smart Stadium after the Warriors had first reeled in the Cowboys' early advantage then overtaken the visitors on Monday.

Half-back Shaun Johnson's penalty three minutes from time took the home side out to a 20-12 lead, before winger Antonio Winterstein scored late for the Cowboys.

The Warriors survived the last two minutes to record their first win since last July and end an 11-match losing streak.

Having used up their substitutions they played the last few minutes with 12 men after Ben Henry went off with concussion.

Earlier the Warriors, who already have a lengthy casualty list, had seen Dane Nielsen go off with a rib problem and a groggy Kevin Locke helped off after a heavy tackle.

The result meant a third defeat in a row for the Cowboys.

As both teams fatigued from the pace of the game, errors crept in, and twice the Cowboys let slip try scoring opportunities that could have drawn them back level.

The Warriors had made a spirited start, playing with some adventure, but it was the Cowboys who hit the front first.

At 12-0 down, the Warriors finally hit back to score their first first-half points of the year.

They were unable take advantage of Shaun Johnson's third 40-20 of the season.

But with seconds to go until half-time, they finished off a messy period of play from both sides, with Johnson popping up to deliver the pass for Elijah Taylor to force his way over.

"The Warriors are a quality side and we gave them a sniff late in the second half there and that's all they needed," Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott told the media.

"[Taylor's try] was a bit of a turning point I think.

"We defended well until then, it just gave them a leg-up.

"They came out in the second half with a lot of confidence and we had plenty of opportunities but we just couldn't execute to put them away."

Warriors: 20 (E Taylor, S Johnson, K Hurrell tries; S Johnson 3/3 conversions 1/1 penalty goals)
Cowboys: 18 (K Faifai Loa, B Tate, A Winterstein tries; J Thurston 2/3 conversions, 1/1 penalty goals)
