WEEK 08 - AN ANZAC WEEKEND FULL OF BLOCK BUSTERS!

Hi everyone!

Welcome to this Week 08 Tipping blog update edition!

With the Anzac Round starting on Anzac Day, we were treated to some block buster matches!

It's started with a ripper of a match from Allianz Stadium (SFS) where the Dragons pulled out a miracle fight back against their Anzac rivals the Roosters to win 28-24 - See Match of the Week below!

Across the state border further south, the NZ Warriors were on the brink of a another stunning upset in Melbourne, only for the unbeaten Storm to pull out in the last quarter to win 32-14.

On Friday night, Doggies coach Des Hasler came up against his former club that he helped steer to another premiership last year but his former student coach (and former team-mate) Geoff Toovey helped orchestrate a plan to lift the Seaeagles side to a 12-10 victory over the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.

In other results, the Sharks also won their 6th straight match pounding the Raiders 44-22 in Canberra, while the Tigers won their first back to back matches of the season, holding on to win 31-30 after leading 31-0 with 13 mins to go! Yes, you heard correctly! Tigers coach Tim Sheens labelled it a disgrace from his team to let in 5 tries in the final 13 minutes and rightly so.

In our tipping competition, leader Sava4 (54) and 2nd placed The Neighbour (53) both scored All Corrects (also The Neighbour's 2nd of the season) to push themselves further away from the pack at the top of the Tipping Championship table. Only 1 point separates the top two, but now they enjoy a 5 point gap on 3rd spot.

cmcnls+1day & Evra69 also both enjoyed a perfect week with All Corrects.

BEARlythere (48), Feet Little, cmcnls+1day (46), ootz (45), Brenda Kirkman, tais1, Jessamine (44) and MrBusy (43 on margin difference) round off the current Top 10.

At the bottom end, Scott Nielson now shares last spot with Darren Scott (who forgot to enter most of his tips for week 8) on 31 points.

LAST MINUTE TRY STUNS ROOSTERS ON ANZAC DAY

A thrilling last-minute try from St George Illawarra back rower Ben Creagh snatched an incredible 28-24 Anzac Day victory over Sydney Roosters at Sydney Football Stadium last Wednesday.

Roosters half-back Mitchell Pearce appeared to have steered his side to victory following another wonderful performance, with the visitors up by eight points with just four minutes to go following a try and penalty goal to skipper Braith Anasta.

But the match turned on its head when Jason Nightingale regathered a short kick-off, with the ball spread wide to Matt Prior who cut the lead to two points with a try out wide.

Creagh then crashed over with 45 seconds on the clock for his second try of the game and a remarkable victory.

Creagh admitted the Dragons needed some luck to get over the line against a Roosters side that dominated much of the match.

"Four minutes to go it was looking like a Roosters win," he told the media.

"All credit to us, we kept our heads up, stayed positive, backed ourselves with a short kick-off ... and it came off. Sometimes you need a bit of luck in this game.

"They've got a very big forward pack and back end of the first half and start of the second half we struggled with them.

"They've got a great side. (Anthony) Minichiello, Braith Anasta, the halves played great tonight and looked threatening lal the time. Good to get a win.

"Nothing beats 40,000 at the SFS ... it's my favourite club match of the year and I always love playing here."

Soward played tribute to Jason Nightingale for setting up the try that brought the Dragons back into contention.

"He's unbelievable ... you watch it back and think how did he do that, but he did it," Soward said.

"We've been watching games over the last few years where teams get out of jail so it was nice to jag the win.

"Everyone's just hung in there and played awesome.

"It was one of those games. Lucky tries from both teams. It was looking pretty grim but we got the two points."

Up until the dying moments, it had been Pearce's game, with the incumbent New South Wales half-back setting up two tries but nobody could deny the Dragons, who defended grimly and finished in astonishing style.

Pearce set up first-half tries to Aidan Guerra and Anthony Minichello for a 12-10 lead at the break, before scoring a try of his own with 20 minutes to go in the second half to give the Roosters a match-winning eight-point lead.

Dragons and Blues prop Mick Weyman was the catalyst for the tight finish, scoring an unlikely try to bring the home side within two points 15 minutes from time.

Weyman took the ball from dummy-half and burrowed his way past Minichiello and Mitch Aubusson to score, but then came up with an error from the kick-off, which allowed the Roosters another excellent opportunity.

Creagh had opened the scoring for the Dragons in the 12th minute, capitalising on a beautiful dummy-half run by hooker Mitch Rein, who had split some flimsy ruck defence to give Creagh a simple run to the tryline.

A cross-field kick in the 20th minute was fumbled by Dragons skipper Ben Hornby, allowing Guerra to pounce on the ball in the in-goal area and put the Roosters on the scoreboard.

The Roosters dominated the rest of the half, camping themselves on the Dragons tryline from the 25th to 30th minute without reward due to some exceptional goalline defence.

When Matt Cooper scored a try against the run of play - from a Hornby kick - it seemed a cruel blow after the Roosters' dominance, but Pearce helped them back in front with a bomb for Minichiello's try in the 34th minute.

A record crowd of 40,164 fans turned up to watch the contest, the highest number of fans at the annual fixture since it started in 2002.

The Dragons played with a man down for 60 minutes of the match, with representative back rower Beau Scott forced from the field with a dislocated elbow.

Hornby converted the final try in his record-breaking 257th match for the Dragons.

Dragons 28: (B Creagh (2), M Cooper, M Weyman, M Prior tries; J Soward 3/4 cons, Hornby con) Roosters 24: (A Guerra, A Minichiello, M Pearce, B Anasta tries; B Anasta 3/4 cons, pen)

Canberra's flyer Reece Robinson scores a spectacular consolation try against the Sharks last Sunday.
