WEEK 07 - Storm Go 7 Straight Undefeated while Sharkies go 5 straight

Hi everyone!

Welcome to this later Week 07 Tipping blog update edition!
With the stand alone rep weekend, it was the prefect time to take a break and enjoy the rep footy before diving back into the NRL.

With the NRL set to begin tomorrow (Anzac Day) with two matches that promise to be real crackers, I thought I better get my A into G and reflect on what happened a couple of weekend's ago in Round 07 of the NRL and Tipping competitions.

Firstly in the NRL, the Melbourne Storm have notched up seven straight games without defeat after getting over a tough gritty bulldogs side 12-6 in what was a tight tussle at AAMI Park. The Storm are having their best start to a season since 2007. The Storm have a big Anzac clash coming up tomorrow night when they face the NZ Warriors in what will become an annual Anzac fixture. The Warriors are side that has a very good record in Melbourne and you only have to cast your mind back to last year's Preliminary Final, when the highly fancied Storm were denied a Grand Final appearance in a major boilover. It's going to be a fantastic match if the Warriors can bring the same enthusiasm with them again.

In other results, the Sharks won their 5 straight match (since being 0-2 after 2nd round) beating a poor Eels outfit 24-18 at Shark Park, while the Titans & Tigers won their first match in 6 games! The Titans upset the premiers Manly at Brookvale Oval while the Tigers were relentless in the 30-0 thrashing of Penrith at Penrith Stadium.
North Queensland also kept their impressive away form going with a massive 50-12 drubbing of the Roosters at TIO Stadium.

In our tipping competition, Sava4 remains the competition's leader on 42 points but is followed closely behind by The Neighbour and BEARlythere on 41 points! Overatedbenji  is 4th a further point back on 40 points, while Feet Little & ootz continue to share 5th spot on 39 points. MrBusy, Brenda Kirkman, Sanka and Harveysan round off a nice top 10 grouping on 38 points! She's a tight little bugger!
At the bottom end, Scott Nielson & Matthew Bowers share last spot on 26 points.

Richard McCourt
with 7 points and a margin of zero. Congrats!

Here's what's happened in Week Seven!

LOWLY TITANS STUN SEAEAGLES AT FORTRESS

A masterful display by Gold Coast half-back Scott Prince helped the Titans snap a five-match losing streak, with a 26-14 victory over Manly two weeks ago.

It was a case of last year's wooden spooners against the reigning premiers, but neither side played up to their title at Brookvale Oval, much to the dismay of the largely pro-Manly crowd of 11,619.

The Titans showed an energy in attack and defence which eluded them through 2011, while Manly sorely missed its international quartet of Tony Williams (suspension), Kieran Foran (hamstring), Brett Stewart (ribs) and Glenn Stewart (thumb).

Titans skipper Prince masterminded the victory, laying on three of their four tries, including two in the second half with pin-point cross-field kicks to wingers David Mead and Kevin Gordon that extended the visitors' lead to 14 points.

The 32-year-old also kicked five goals in a man-of-the-match performance, easily his best of the season.

The Titans enjoyed the better of the first half, taking a lead into the break thanks to a slow-motion try to Jamal Idris in the 29th minute.

Idris, clearly hampered by the hamstring injury which caused him to miss three matches this season, was put into an enormous gap before lumbering towards the tryline.

Idris, who was placed on report for a high shot on Jamie Lyon, did not return after the half-time break.

Lyon was able to recover from the hit to scamper through for a try of his own, which levelled the scores after Titans debutant Aidan Sezer had opened the scoring with a scything run in the ninth minute.

Titans lock Ashley Harrison was also put on report for a high shot on Vic Mauro, while Manly's Jamie Buhrer also found himself on report for a dangerous lifting tackle on David Mead late in the half, though prop Darcy Lussick appeared to be the main aggressor in the tackle.

Manly centre Steve Matai went off in the 70th minute after suffering a shoulder injury, while Lyon scored his second with two minutes left which he converted for a personal haul of 14 points.

The Sea Eagles' title defence continued to stumble, the team falling to eighth spot on the ladder with three wins and four losses.

Titans coach John Cartwright said Idris tweaked his hamstring and could have returned to the field if required, but the club did not feel it was worth the risk.

Praising his skipper, Cartwright said it was the best game Prince had played this season and the win was more impressive than the round-one victory over North Queensland.

"It was probably a lot better. We played against a pretty committed side tonight," he said.

"I don't think they lost many games here in (the) past few years. It was very pleasing."

Prince said it was a relief for the club, who have battled considerable hardship on and off the field in 2012.

"As players, we don't worry about what's off the field. We just worry about what's on the field," he said.

"We needed a win. It didn't matter who we played tonight."

Manly coach Geoff Toovey said he was shocked at how flat his men were considering they had snapped a losing streak of their own only last weekend with a 30-0 thumping of Penrith.

"I didn't see it coming," he admitted.

"I thought we were very flat, and a completely opposite side to what we saw last week.

"The same team but not the same team."

Titans: 26 (K Gordon, J Idris, D Mead, A Sezer tries; S Prince 4/4 conversions, penalty goal)
Sea Eagles: 14 (J Lyon 2 tries; Lyon 2/2 conversions, penalty goal)

Kalifa Faifai Loa does yet another one of his trademark superman impersonations to score for the Cowboys against the the Roosters.
