WEEK 30 - RABBITS WIN FIRST PREMIERSHIP IN 43 YEARS

Hi everyone!

She's all over for another season! A big congratulations to the South Sydney Rabbitohs on an emphatic 30-6 victory over the Canterbury Bulldogs in last weekend's Grand Final.

Sam Burgess turned in his own John Sattler moment as the South Sydney Rabbitohs ended 43 years of heartbreak to beat the Bulldogs.

Burgess fractured his cheek bone in the first tackle of the game, when he clashed heads with Canterbury's tough English forward James Graham.

He immediately called for the trainer, pointing to his face, but stayed on the field, turning in an inspirational performance similar to Rabbitohs legend John Sattler who played out the 1970 grand final with a broken jaw.

Burgess later said he would undergo surgery on Monday morning to repair his shattered right cheekbone.

"The doc seems to think I'll need surgery on my face tomorrow. This cheek, it's gone inwards," Burgess said.

"I'd imagine I'll be getting it fixed over the next 24 hours."

Burgess, whose right eye was blackened and fully closed, said he never considered leaving the game.

Although he knew immediately that he had broken his cheekbone, he also revealed he never felt any initial pain and was deliberately not listening to the team's medical officials attending to him in case they told him to go off.

"The joy is overriding the pain at the moment," he said.

"I wasn't really listening to what he (doctor) was saying to be honest, my team-mates really helped me through the process.

"I just had to get on with it I guess ... nothing was going to stop me enjoying that ride and that moment with the team tonight.

"We've worked for this day from November 1, so there was no chance I was missing out."

Departing the NRL for English rugby union at the end of the season, Burgess led from the front to help the Rabbitohs win their first title since 1971.

Burgess finished the game with 25 hit-ups for 225 metres and 36 tackles to etch his name into history and collect the Clive Churchill Medal in front of a record crowd of 83,833.

Co-owner actor Russell Crowe says he was deeply satisfied with the team's victory.

"It's deep, deep satisfaction," he said.

"It's a grand reward for everyone who stepped up to the plate and decided that we weren't going to put up with South Sydney being a losing club anymore."

The Rabbitohs have secured a first rugby league title in 43 years after beating the Bulldogs 30-6 in the NRL grand final at Sydney's ANZ stadium last Sunday night.

A 20th-minute breakthrough saw Alex Johnston open the scoring for the Rabbitohs, only for Tony Williams to level it up in the 50th minute for Canterbury.

But the Rabbitohs' lead was restored when George Burgess stormed over for a brilliant try beneath the posts on the 57th minute.

Kirisome Auvaa was then alert to a fortunate bounce to pounce for a third Rabbitohs try to effectively seal the title with five minutes remaining.

There was more joy to follow as Adam Reynolds stole in to score from a John Sutton kick, before Greg Inglis stormed home for another try in a storming finish.
