WEEK 29 - RABBITS & DOGS SET TO DO BATTLE FOR NRL PREMIERSHIP

Hi everyone!

Well, this is it....THE 2014 GRAND FINAL. Congratulations to both the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury Bulldogs on qualifying for the big one and the best of luck to both sides.

For South Sydney, their first grand final appearance in 43 years has gone a long way to erasing the memories of the past two campaigns that came up one week short of the decider and gives them a long-awaited opportunity to win their 21st premiership.

For the Bulldogs, with the pain of 2012 still lingering and making an unlikely Grand Final from 7th spot, there is no better motivation for the underdogs to go out and take out their 9th premiership.

In our Tipping Competition, the prizes are all but decided.
Simply The Bears is our 2014 Tipping Champion with Redv4me & Feet Little taking out 1st Runner up & 2nd Runner Up. Congratulations!
All that's left to confirm now are the 2014 Pools Tables with plenty of the Pools Tables, still to be determined - thanks to the Bonus Prediction points.

South Sydney has ended the Sydney Roosters' NRL title defence to surge into their first grand final in 43 years with a stirring comeback win over their century-old rivals.

Finals bunnies no more, Souths will take on Canterbury in Sunday week's premiership decider after recovering from an early 12-point deficit to power to a 32-22 victory at Sydney's ANZ stadium on Friday night.

The thumping win atoned for painful preliminary finals losses Canterbury and Manly in 2012 and 2013 and denied the Roosters a shot at becoming the first team since Brisbane in 1992-93 to secure back-to-back titles in a united competition.

The Rabbitohs' five-tries-to-two triumph also ended the stellar NRL careers of the Roosters' record-setting captain Anthony Minichiello and Sonny Bill Williams.

But the victory gives veteran winger Lote Tuqiri and rugby-bound forward enforcers Sam Burgess and Ben Te'o a dream opportunity of farewelling the code with a premiership.

After being stripped of two titles for Melbourne's salary-cap rorting, Greg Inglis is also just 80 minutes away from earning his "first" premiership ring after the champion full-back's second-half double clinched Souths' win in front of 52,592 fans.

Thirteen years after their re-entry to the competition following a lengthy and emotional court battle with the league, Souths will be chasing a record 21st title - but first since 1971.
They will have to chase grand final glory without Issac Luke, though, after the livewire hooker was placed on report for a first-half dangerous tackle on Williams and suspended for two matches.

Canterbury stood up to be counted at Sydney's ANZ stadium on Saturday night, overcoming Penrith 18-12 to book a place in next weekend's NRL grand final.

Captain Michael Ennis did not return after half-time due to a foot injury and would have to be in extreme doubt for the showdown against South Sydney next Sunday, but his absence only made a gutsy Bulldogs dig deeper.

Penrith set up a thrilling finish when flying winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak cut the margin to six with eight minutes left, but were left to rue three critical Jamal Idris mistakes.

In the end, the brick-wall blue and white defence led by inspirational Canterbury prop James Graham proved too strong.

It is the Bulldogs' second grand final appearance in three seasons under coach Des Hasler, with their 2012 campaign ending in disappointment against Melbourne.

Two of the proudest and best supported clubs in the league, South Sydney and Canterbury, have only faced off in a grand final once before, way back in 1967 - a match won by the Rabbitohs 12-10.

Souths are chasing a first premiership in 43 years, but the Bulldogs will be no less hungry having gone 10 years without a title.
