WEEK 13 - STATE OF ORIGIN / WAR OF WORDS & GOODBYE GALLOP

Hi everyone!

Welcome to this Week 13 Tipping blog update edition!

Origin #2 is just around the corner with the series going to Sydney with the Blues needing to win on home soil to keep the series alive.
There's been a lot of talk in the media regarding the performances of the referees in Melbourne (mainly from a NSW point of view) and low and behold, whistleblower Matt Cecchin and video referee Sean Hampstead were sacked for next week's second game.
QLD Mal Meninga has come out firing saying that NSW lack Origin mentality and that "(NSW) are trying to instill a bit of hatred into NSW supporters, trying to boost their team's morale by saying they were unlucky but that's not the road we (QLD) take"
The war of words is well and truly in full swing so you can only imagine sparks will fly on the field.
Get set for another massive Origin clash! 6 days to go!!

TEAMS FOR ORIGIN #2 THIS WEDNESDAY

In other massive news, David Gallop stepped down from his role as chief executive of the ARLC yesterday, effective immediately.

ARLC chairman John Grant and Gallop both said the decision was reached by mutual agreement when they addressed the media separately after the announcement was made.
But it came just four months into a four-year contract with the new commission which was established in February as the single controlling body of rugby league in Australia.
Gallop had been head of the National Rugby League since 2002 and worked with the organisation for six years before that.
It appears the working relationship between Gallop and the new commission could not be sustained.

In the NRL last week, it was a shorter (than usual) weekend with the Origin build up but there were a few upsets.
On Friday night, the Titans continued their mini surge up the table upsetting the Cowboys at Skilled Park while the Sea-eagles heaped more misery on the Dragons with a 20-8 win at Brookvale.
On Saturday night, the Tigers adapted to the awful Canberra conditions and thrashed the hapless Raiders 40-0 while in Sydney there was a thrilling match between the Dogs and Rabbitohs (see Match of the Week below).
On Sunday, the Storm star trio of Smith, Slater & Cronk continued to play a big part in Melbourne's impressive season record helping the side in coming back 0-12 down to win 22-12 over the NZ Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium. In Brisbane, Wayne Bennett was welcomed back to Suncorp Stadium, this time as a Knights coach, but it was a afternoon he'd like to forget as the Knights were smoked 50-24 by the Broncos.
Finally on Monday, Eels coach Stephen Kearney put media rumours of only having 2 weeks to turn things around by guiding his troops to an upset 29-20 win over the Sharks at Parramatta Stadium. A good way to answer your critics.

In our tipping competition it's still very very tight at the top, although 1st and 2nd do have a 4 point lead over the rest of the pack. Our leader sava4 (81) has taken a slight 1 point lead at the top of the Tipping Championship Ladder over cmcnls+1day (80) who were both tied last week.
Wilshere Wonderland (76) holds 3rd over Brenda Kirkman & Vee8Head (both 75).
In 6th equal Kiwi MistyThe Neighbour & BEARlythere (all 74) hold a 2 point lead over Steven Marshall, Feet Little & Link Abrams (all 72) in 9th equal spot.
At the bottom of the ladder, Radman remains in the wooden spoon spot on (51).

Keep getting those tips in!

taijay with a score of 6 points and a margin of 1. Impressive' tipping for a tough week!

Here's what's happened in Week Thirteen!

INU SAVES THE DOGGIES AGAIN

Canterbury winger Krisnan Inu continued to sparkle in the blue and white after nailing the match-winning field goal in the Bulldogs' thrilling 23-18 win over South Sydney at ANZ stadium last Saturday night.
A week after starring on debut for his new club after being unwanted by the Warriors, Inu was given the responsibility of breaking an 18-18 deadlock five minutes from full-time before David Stagg added a late try to propel the Bulldogs into the top four.

It was a remarkable win considering the Bulldogs trailed 12-0 after just 15 minutes and, even after Inu's one-pointer, they refused to quit as a desperate Ben Barba pushed Dylan Farrell into touch just short of the tryline to deny what would have been a remarkable Bunnies win.

Canterbury coach Des Hasler was typically underwhelmed in his assessment of his side's performance.
"I guess from a spectator's point of view it was an exciting, pretty tense kind of game," he told the media.

"I thought we were a bit impulsive in parts, I thought we made it a lot more difficult for ourselves than we should have, but I'm happy with the [two] points. We're just not getting our heads around the starts. A lot of it is self-inflicted too with no control of the ball and working field position. But they're a young side, they're working real hard and we'll continue to work real hard with them."

The Rabbitohs were searching for five straight wins and looked well on their way when Justin Hunt's early try was followed by Dave Taylor's crushing run to the line.
Sam Burgess attempted to flex some muscle from the ensuing kick-off but only served to turn the game on its head when he sparked a minor brawl as he ran the ball with arm raised into fellow Englishman James Graham.

"Souths really come out of the blocks and we couldn't get any field position," Bulldogs skipper Michael Ennis admitted.
"But credit to our side we hung in that first half, went into the break in front and Souths threw everything at us in the second half.
"But defensively we held up and a huge play there from Benny Barba at the end.
"With their attacking weapons and the form those guys are in I thought we contained them well tonight."

Given its first sniff of the Rabbitohs' line, Canterbury was more bloodhound than bulldog as it pounced to seize the initiative with three tries in the space of eight minutes.
Inu scored his third try for the club before another Burgess penalty turned into a Jonathan Wright try.
What was meant to be a celebration for the Burgess family - as youngest brother George entered the fray to make it three brothers in the NRL for the first time since the Hughes clan in 2001 - turned sour as he too conceded a penalty from which Barba scored.

The Bunnies' contingent in the 19,439-strong crowd could hardly believe they were trailing at half-time, but another penalty just after the restart helped turn the tide Souths' way.
Martin Tapau had only just gone on when he was a little over-zealous in cleaning up John Sutton, with the Rabbitohs levelling on the next set when Sutton's kick for the in-goal was rejected NBA-style by Farrell.
Both sides struggled to break free of the arm wrestle before Inu stepped up to end the Bunnies' charge.

Canterbury: 23 (K Inu, J Wright, B Barba, D Stagg tries; K Inu 3/4 conversions, 1/1 field goals)
South Sydney: 18 (J Hunt, D Taylor, D Farrell tries; A Reynolds 2/3 conversions, 1/1 conversions)
