WEEK 01 - NRL Begins with a Bang!

Hi folks!

Welcome to the first update! Blog style!

Well...like it or love it...the footy is back and what a feast of games to start off Round 01 of the NRL.
Ok, sure, most teams were rusty but some of the football displayed was absolutely breathtaking at times. Hats off to the fans who got out in force.
It's the start to a promising season ahead and a step in the right direction as the new RL commmission prepare for a new TV deal & make a call on the competition's expansion to 18 teams later this year.

In our tipping competition, MrBusy & ootz were the top tipsters with a score of 7 from 8, missing out on the Titans and Dragons respectively.
Both tipsters had a margin error of 7, which gave them the edge over tais1, who also tipped 7 from 8 but had a slightly worse margin of 12.
Wilshere Wonderland could've joined them on 7 but unfortunately missed the Thursday night clash between the knights and Dragons after joining the competition late.
At the bottom of the pile, Bearass started with a woeful 1 from 8, only landing the the Tigers hard fought 1 point win over the Sharks on Sunday.

Mr Busy & ootz
with 7 points and a margin of 7. Well done fellas!

Early Days! Keep getting those tips in!

Here's what's happened in Week One!

ROOSTERS STUN RABBITOHS AT THE DEATH

Sydney Roosters produced the ultimate Houdini act with an Anthony Minichiello try 19 seconds from time securing a scarcely believable 24-20 NRL win over arch-rival South Sydney on Monday.
The Rabbitohs looked like they had done enough to secure a season-opening win when leading 20-12 with three minutes remaining.
But the Roosters somehow conjured up back-to-back tries to snatch the competition points.
When Jared Waerea-Hargreaves carried four defenders over the line in the 79th minute, it seemed like little more than a consolation effort.
But a stunning last-gasp effort ensured it was far more valuable than that.
With the ball on their own 20-metre line, the Roosters first went out to the left before coming back to the right where Mitchell Aubusson put teenager Boyd Cordner away, the back rower toeing ahead with Minichiello beating debutant Adam Reynolds in a race for the ball to shock the Bunnies faithful.
Roosters coach Brian Smith said he never gave up on his side producing a miracle.
"It was certainly looking very dim (but) I hadn't conceded. We were still in touch," he said.
Minichiello said the side never gave up - even when trailing by eight points late in the game.
"Everyone keeps mentioning we're a young squad, but we believe in ourselves and we just kept fighting all the way til that last bell," said the full-back, who joined Craig Fitzgibbon and Kevin Hastings in a share of second spot in games played for the Roosters with his 228th appearance.
It was a tough NRL debut in the coach's box for Michael Maguire, who is still searching for his first win after three trial losses preceded the round-one defeat.
"It obviously hurt there just in the end, particularly for the players," he said.
"I know how hard they're working and they're trying to improve in what they're doing but unfortunately it didn't go our way."
Roosters: 24 (A Guerra, A Minichiello, L Tasi, J Waerea-Hargraves tries; D Mortimer 4/4 conversions) Rabbitohs: 20 (M Crocker, C McQueen, J Sutton tries; A Reynolds 3/3 conversions, penalty goal)

Manly halfback Daley Cherry-Evans scored a try against the NZ Warriors @ Eden Park that left Warriors fans stunned and must surely be in the running for an end of season award, when he finished off a freakish play created by winger David Williams.
Check out this brilliant try from the defending champions....
